The Taoiseach and Agriculture Minister are being asked to “pull on the green jersey” and look after local beef farmers. Farmers from Cavan and Monaghan are joining the Beef Plan Movement in peacefully protesting out the Irish Farmers Journal’s Beef Summit this evening.
Minister Michael Creed, Bord Bia and representatives of Irish meat factories are among those speaking at the event in Galway.
The future of the Irish beef industry is said to be at a critical juncture, with prices in the sector down at least 40 cent per kilogram since this time last year. Speaking ahead of the protest, Monaghan Chairman of Beef Plan Micheal Rafferty said the Government needs to act.
