The Government are being called on to do more to safeguard jobs in Cavan and Monaghan as a result of Brexit.
That’s the view of Fianna Fail TD Brendan Smith following on from a study from IBEC which shows one in five workers in the Northern Sound Region work in a sector vulnerable to Britain’s exit from the EU.
Agrifood, tourism and traditional manufacturing are the industries most at risk.
The study which was released recently also states that 28% of employment in Cavan and 27% of employment in Monaghan will be directly exposed by a ‘Hard Brexit’.
Deputy Brendan Smith says the Government need to wake up to the seriousness of the situation facing people living along the border.
