A Cavan Town GP says she wants 2020 to be remembered for Cavan's Ulster Championship victory and not for that rise in covid-19

A Cavan Town GP says she wants 2020 to be remembered for Cavan's Ulster Championship victory and not for that rise in covid-19 cases that could follow.

It comes amid confirmation that gardaí are carrying out enquiries into alleged covid-19 breaches in the aftermath of Sunday's victory over Donegal.

While Cavan Town GP Dara Hume hailed the Kingspan Breffni drive-through homecoming for the Cavan team, she expressed concerned about other gatherings that allegedly took place.

Recently, Cavan had the highest 14-day incidence rate of covid-19 in the county and Dr Hume says the county has done a great job in getting the numbers down.

However, she says everyone has to take personal responsibility against the virus.

Dr Hume added that she had already experienced an increase in people contacting her surgery before Sunday's final and fears a possible spike in cases next week.

She told the Joe Finnegan Show that a spike in cases would "damage" the Cavan team's achievement:

Dr Hume raised concern about gatherings outside of Kingspan Breffni, and in a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, gardaí confirmed they are carrying out enquiries into alleged events that may have breached covid-19 health regulations.

They involve gatherings at a house in a Cavan town estate and in local businesses.

The statement added that the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions may be sought in respect of any further actions to be taken.

Gardaí also appealed for the public to continue to comply with the public health guidelines and regulations in order to save lives.
