Increase in number of children enrolling in mainstream primary schools in Cavan and Monaghan

Figures show an increase in the numbers of children enrolling in mainstream primary schools in Cavan and Monaghan.

The latest report from the department has shown that Cavan has seen an increase of 148 children enrolling compared to 2017, while Monaghan has seen an increase of 81 children. The report states that the overall increase in primary school pupils nationwide in 2018 was 4,318.

However, despite the overall increase there is growing strain on the services in Dublin and other University cities, while the viability of rural schools is at risk with young families choosing to relocate to urban areas.
