A local vehicle import specialist has warned that increased red tape and bureaucracy following Brexit has resulted in a slump in used car imports from the UK.
In 2019, 108,000 cars were imported from the UK, but according to DoneDeal's latest Car Price Index, this figure plummeted to just over 47,000 last year.
The Car Price Index also found the cost of a used car has increased by 56% since January 2020.
Tax changes triggered by Brexit has resulted in a 10% customs duty on some used cars coming from the UK.
Lisa McKenna, of LMC Auto Clearance, says the increased complexity has driven individuals from the UK-used car market and caused increased headaches for car dealers.
