A planned housing development in Monaghan Town has been appealed to the higher planning authority.
Clarlan limited applied to Monaghan County Council to construct 34 houses at Killygowan. The 34 houses would comprise of eight five-bed three and a half storey semi detached dwellings, two four-bed three storey detached dwellings, and two three-bed three storey semi-detached houses The rest is made up of 18 three- bed two storey semi-detached houses and four two-bed two storey semi-detached houses. Also included is a communal open space, vehicular and pedestrian access from Glenview Heights, new pedestrian connection to the Cootehill Road, and all associated works. Plans for the new houses were given approval by Monaghan County Council subject to 22 conditions however it has now been appealed to An Bórd Pleanála. A number of submissions were made by local residents who claim that the design of the houses, particularly the five-beds, are not in keeping with the area.
Some submissions point out that while they are fully aware of the need for housing in the area, they raise concerns with the lack of parking provisions in the plans. Traffic is also a major problem according to the appeals lodged.
An Bórd Pleanála will make a decision on the appeal in the coming months
