615 mandatory intoxication testing checkpoints were carried out in Cavan over the last year.
From the over 600 checkpoints testing for drink or drug driving, 174 motorists were detected for prosecution over the 12 month period.
During the same period, 151 motorists were detected for dangerous driving in Cavan.

Superintendent for Cavan, Gavin O'Reilly said that road safety was something that Gardai took very serious and he said that motorists can expect more checkpoints being carried out in the locality.
He said that over the summer months, a stronger Garda visibility presence would be prominent across the county.
