Planning permission has been lodged for a major housing development in Carrickmacross.
Monaghan based Moffett Investment Holdings have applied to Monaghan County Council to construct 72 new houses in the town. The new homes are set to be built on lands at Kilmactrasna in Carrickmacross. 54 houses will be two-storey three-bed semi-detached, with the rest being made up of four detached four beds, four detached three beds, 8 two bed semi-detached and four one-and-a-half storey four bed detached. Other works include a new pedestrian footpath, a new vehicle access road off the R179 Kingscourt Road, a new playground, and open space. A traffic management report examining the potential impact of extra traffic on the road found that the the existing road and the proposed new T-junction would be more than adequate to deal with the worse-case traffic from the 72 houses. 20% of these new units would also be ringfenced for social and affordable housing.
A decision on the new development is due in May.
