Abuse survivor issues reminder that abusers can look like 'ordinary people'

Paula Kavanagh has warned that people too often think abusers look like "monsters".

People too often think abusers look like "monsters" and don't realise they can be "ordinary people" who live with their victims.

Paula Kavanagh, who is from Dublin but currently lives and works in Bailieborough, and her two sisters were sexually abused by her father.

While she says he was "brazen" in his actions, Paula adds that too many people turned a blind eye.

Speaking on The Joe Finnegan Show, Paula said a "sense of shame" can prevent people from reporting the abuse:

Paula is currently fundraising on behalf of the support therapy charity, 'Children at Risk in Ireland'.
