A day of action against domestic violence is taking place today across Cavan and Monaghan.
People are being asked to 'Go Purple' by wearing it, eating it, or decorating their surroundings with the colour.
Sergeant Cathal Buggy is involved with the Cavan Community Engagement Unit.
According to Sergeant Buggy, Gardai have been extremely "proactive" over the last number of years working closely with external agencies who work in the area of domestic abuse such as Tearmann Cavan/Monaghan.
In solidarity with victims and in support of this initiative he says all garda members attached to the Cavan Community Engagement area will be displaying a purple ribbon on their lapel today.
