Almost 300 babies were delivered in the first three months of this year at Cavan General Hospital.
According to figures released by Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, 288 babies were born between January and March this year at the local hospital. The figures also point out that the rate of caesarean sections is increasing, with the latest data from 2023 showing 39.4% of births are carried out via this method. The Rotunda Hospital in Dublin delivered just over 2,000 babies in the first three months of this year.
This is followed by the Coombe and Cork University Hospital who've delivered 1,666 and 1,594 newborns respectively.
