Ambulance strike to begin in Cavan this morning

The HSE is warning of potentially long delays to non-life-threatening call outs.

There could be major disruption to ambulance services across the country today, as more than 2,000 workers go on strike.

In Cavan staff are protesting from their base at 8am onwards.

Union members from SIPTU and Unite are taking to the picket line in a dispute with the National Ambulance Service over pay.

The HSE is warning of potentially long delays to non-life-threatening call outs.

However the 999 service is operating and priority is being given to emergency cases.

Conor Deasy - President of the Irish Association of Emergency Medicine - says the strike is playing 'Russian roulette' with patients lives.
