Over 13,000 people in the Northern Sound region were in receipt of fuel allowance, as of December 2025.
In Co. Cavan, 7,791 people were in receipt fuel of allowance, with 6,216 people receiving the allowance in Co. Monaghan.
That's according to Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary.

In budget 2026, fuel allowance entitlement was extended to families in receipt of the Working Family Payment.
Earlier this month, over 50,000 Working Family Payment recipients received back dated payments of Fuel allowance, bringing the the total number of households receiving the allowance to over 470,000.
