Appeal for trade effluent to be disposed of correctly after 'fatberg' discovered in Bailieborough

This year the Bailieborough Wastewater Treatment Plant was impacted by a large volume of trade effluent that required treatment.

Irish Water is appealing to local businesses to dispose of trade effluent properly after a fatberg was found the Bailieborough wastewater network.

Trade effluent is any liquid waste, other than domestic wastewater and storm water, discharged from a business premises to the public sewer.

This year the Bailieborough Wastewater Treatment Plant was impacted by a large volume of trade effluent that required treatment, resulting in significant operational difficulties for staff and the plant.

Irish Water is asking business-owners in the town to be very conscious of the impact this can have on wastewater networks and treatment plants and dispose of trade effluent and other products correctly.
