A granted proposal to develop a 112-bed nursing home in Co. Cavan is now being appealed to the higher planning authority.
The project had initially been granted by Cavan county planners subject to 23 conditions.
The development was proposed by Dublin-based Trygve Limited, and the construction was planned to take place at a site in Lisdarn, just outside Cavan Town.
An application had been submitted to construct a fully-serviced two-storey nursing home in Lisdarn at the end of last year.
The site is accessed off the Loreto Road and backs onto the grounds of Cavan General Hospital.
A design statement lodged with the council stated the 112-bed nursing home had been designed with specific attention to design and care for the elderly, specifically for dementia patients and patients with poor mobility.
The development also includes 99 car parking spaces, along with an ambulance set down area, with EV charging spaces on site.
According to the developers, the design of the building was done in a way to minimise visual impacts on the neighbouring area and to present a simple aesthetic for the building.
The project was initially granted planning permission by county planners subject to 23 conditions, however it is now being appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The appeal was lodged on the grounds that no Environmental Impact Assessment report had been provided in relation to the application, which the statement deems to be crucial given the proposed site expands across 27.20 hectares of land.
A Natura Impact Assessment report has been submitted, and a decision on the case is due by the 2nd of December 2025.
