Ireland's bail system is cumbersome, inefficient and haphazard.
That's according to a new review, commissioned by Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan, which recommends 15 key changes.
The report follows calls from the family of a Monaghan man who was killed in a hit in a run 14 years ago.
Shane O'Farrell was killed, at the age of 23, in August 2011 near Carrickmacross when he was struck by a car driven by a person who was on bail for a series of offences at the time.
The review into bail conditions was carried out by senior counsel, Lorcan Staines.
Some of the 15 recommendations are, Gardaí being able to arrest someone suspected of breaching their bail, introducing new laws around house arrest and significantly improving information sharing between the Gardaí and the courts.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Mr. Staines outlined some of his findings in the review.
