The need of a family resource centre in Cootehill was highlighted in the Seanad yesterday afternoon.
A number of people from the community were present at Leinster House to highlight their calls for a resource centre in the town.
Senator Joe O'Reilly called on the government to deliver the service and highlighted the positive impact that it would have on the town.
He highlighted that there is an available premises in the old Bank of Ireland building, and that there is support from all the relevant agencies.
The senator, along with delegates from Cootehill, discussed the issue with Minister Norma Foley this week.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly explained what a centre would mean.
Senator O'Reilly said: "Cootehill is a wonderful town, but like everywhere difficulties exist.
"The centre is badly needed. They got money from LEADER and did research, they found that there was a lack of community resources in Cootehill. People felt they hadn't a space, that they weren't respected in the way they could when accessing services," he added.
