A Kingscourt woman who feeds hundreds of homeless people in Dublin every week says homeless beds are needed in Cavan and Monaghan.
Sonya McMahon from 'Help Our Homeless' run by her and her family offer food to the homeless in the city 365 days a year.
She feeds up on 200 people twice a week outside the GPO along with an outreach service seven days a week visiting tents in parks in the harder to reach areas across the capital.
She says there a people from across the region that she has met in Dublin who are homeless but couldn't get any homeless shelter locally.
Sonya says it's evident that the demand is there. Speaking to Northern Sound, she recalls a recent situation where a young man from Kingscourt found himself on the streets.
She says she contacted the Taoiseach over the situation.
Meanwhile, the local woman who runs a business in Kingscourt says unfortunately the current housing situation is putting more people at risk of homelessness and in turn prevents them from getting a job.
14 people were homeless in Monaghan and Cavan at the end of February according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Over 17, 300 people are now registered as homeless nationally. More than 5,400 of those are children.
The figures from the Department of Housing for last month represent another record high, but don't include those who are sleeping rough, the so-called "hidden homeless" and women in refuge centres.
Locally, a drop has been recorded at 14 compared to 23 at the end of January and it was also 23 at the end of December. The figures locally only highlights the number of adults that are officially homeless.
Executive Director of The Simon Communities of Ireland, Ber Grogan says the real number of those in homelessness across the country is definitely much higher.
