A Monaghan Senator is calling for the Justice Minister to provide an update in relation to the Dublin Monaghan bombings.
Robbie Gallagher raised the matter in the Seanad yesterday ahead of this Saturday which marks 51 years since the atrocity took place.
On the 17th of May 1974, three no-warning bombs exploded in the centre of Dublin at the end of a working day during a bus strike, killing 27 people including an unborn baby. 278 people were injured during that day.
A short time later at 6:59pm, a car bomb exploded in the centre of Monaghan Town killing 5 people initially with another 2 dying in the following weeks. As the decades pass, the death of loved ones related to the victims of 1974 is becoming more and more prominent, says Senator Gallagher.
He believes this makes the quest for truth and justice even more pressing as they suffer the insult of truth delayed and truth denied as their own life's journey comes to an end.
