The pop-up swimming pool in Carrickmacross will remain in place until December 2026.
The decision was confirmed to Cllr Colm Carthy by Swim Ireland this week.
Earlier this year Cllr Carthy requested that Monaghan County Council engage with Swim Ireland to try and extend the duration of time for the pop-up pool to remain in Carrickmacross past the expected deadline of June.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Carthy said he was "delighted" to hear that the pool is being used by so many families and individuals from South Monaghan and beyond.
He told Northern Sound: "This news also further enhances our call for a permeant swimming pool to Carrickmacross. This is something that many of us have been calling for a long time and the people of Carrickmacross want to see a permanent pool. When we get our designs and costings completed and ready to form an application for funding from central Government we will be in a better position now because we are able to show that the pop-up pool in Carrickmacross has been more successful here than any other location across the country. Hopefully that will help us in trying to draw down much needed funding to deliver on that project."
