Sinn Féin's Matt Carthy continued his vociferous objections to changes to Dáil speaking rights on Shannonside / Northern Sound today. He was invited on to the Joe Finnegan Show to debate the ongoing row with Fianna Fáil Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy who is in favour of giving more speaking time in the Dáil to Michael Lowry's group of independents.
Deputy Troy argued changes like the one proposed over the past weeks have been "done on many occasions before" and said they would not just give more speaking time to Michael Lowry but to others including back-benchers.
Responding, Deputy Carthy said Robert Troy was correct in saying amendments have been made to standing orders in the past but, he stressed "they've always been done with the agreement of both the Government and opposition". Both men are serving their fourth term in Dáil Éireann.
And, both apologised for their part in the row in the chamber yesterday which included a two-finger gesture by Michael Lowry, allegations of misogyny by the Ceann Comhaurle and accusations of bullying and anti-democratic behaviour across the board. Matt Carthy followed that today with an attack on the deal between Michael Lowry, the Taoiseach and Tánaiste (listen below):
