There are a number of Garda recruits who won't be able to start work because their Garda Vetting hasn't been completed.
That's according to local Sinn Féin TD, Matt Carthy.
Deputy Carthy has said that up to 20 of the 170 Gardaí due to attest next week could be impacted.
He said that the delay is "absurd", especially since there is a shortage of Gardaí in many communities.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson slammed the Garda vetting system.
Deputy Carthy said: "The most bizarre revelation is that Garda Vetting is effecting the Gardaí themselves.
"The Minister for Justice confirmed to me, that there were some Garda recruits that were due to attest from Templemore next week.
"They won't be able to actually start work, because their Garda Vetting hasn't been completed. That's absolutely crazy in my view," he added.
