A local TD has said that "the majority of people have lost confidence in the government".
Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy believes that the government has “refused to heed the warnings” of rising fuel prices.
The party has submitted a motion of no confidence in the government that will go before the Dáil this week.
Deputy Carthy believes that the latest package that was announced last night, was a set of “half-measures”.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Carthy said that he doesn’t want to see protests, but understands people feel “exacerbated” by the cost of living crisis, and pressures they are feeling.
Deputy Carthy said there will be “serious questions” asked of the government.
He said: "The fact that there is nothing in respect of home heating oil shows how out of touch the government are.
"We are bringing forward the motion of no confidence, government will turn that into a motion of confidence in itself. I do think there will be serious questions asked of Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and independent TDs that are backing this government, to now pick a side.
"They are either on the side of the people crying out for more robust government response, they have been crying out for accountability. Or they are on the side of the debacle we have seen from this government.
"A lot of pressure will be brought to bare, it won't be me that brings the pressure to bare on Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and Independent TDs, it will be their own voters," Deputy Carthy added.
