Tánaiste Simon Harris has said today that the government 'got it wrong' over Special Needs Assistants.
Despite his comments, Co Cavan campaigner Saoirse Ni Bhaoigheallain believes the fight is "far from over" when it comes to protecting our local SNAs.
The coalition did a U-turn this week on plans to cut SNA allocations of over 200 schools.
SNA's and parents of children with additional needs will protest outside the Dáil at 5pm this evening.
They're going ahead with their planned protests, despite a Government U-turn on SNA allocations.
Saoirse described government's initial decision to cut roles as "completely unacceptable" and a move that was "intended from the beginning."
The local campaigner highlighted that over the last number of days calls have been made to save SNA jobs.
However since the U-turn, Saoirse believes it's more important now than ever to 'protect" these jobs into the future which is the ethos behind a protest that has been organised to take place at the Cavan Courthouse at 6pm this Friday.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Saoirse says just because cuts aren't being made, there's still more work to be done to ensure that this never happens again: "I don't want people thinking just because cuts weren't implemented that everything is fine now. SNAs and teachers are already not treated with the respect, dignity, conditions and pay that they deserve. I really want to get the message across that we need to keep fighting to ensure that these positions and all working positions are protected."
Meanwhile, a protest is taking place in Monaghan Town this evening to highlight the importance of SNA's to families and schools across the region.
The protest will take place outside of the Courthouse on Wednesday at 5pm.
