A local councillor has called on Cavan County Council to carry out assessments of step down areas at bus stops.
Cllr TP O’Reilly wants the local authority to install a concrete slab to allow people to disembark and get on to buses more safely.
He pointed to the N3 where he said people especially elderly people had to deal with a significant drop while leaving a bus and usually left standing on uneven ground like stones or grass areas.
Cllr O’Reilly said he was conscious that in more cases there aren’t any bus shelters, hand rails or lights but that this simple concrete area would be a huge benefit to a lot of people.
The local councillor believes this will help reduce the likes of falls and trips that could potentially occur when at bus stops in the county.
Cavan County Council confirmed that there was 27 such stops along the N3 within Co Cavan and that assessments of the areas would be carried out.
