Cavan County Council has issued a warning surrounding algal blooms.
It is advising that due to prevailing conditions and nutrient enrichment, algal blooms, which appear as a green scum, may appear on lakes throughout the county.
People are being warned to avoid contact with algal blooms as they may cause skin irritation or be toxic if ingested.

Dogs are particularly sensitive to these blooms, and should be kept away from affected water and shorelines.
