Gardai are appealing for information following an attempted burglary in Bailieboro.
Gardai were alerted to the incident on the 17th of December at 7:30pm.
The homeowner was home when a knock came to the door.
When answering a number of males retreated and made good their getaway in a dark coloured vehicle.
According to Gardai, it is possible that culprits will knock on a door or ring a door bell to ascertain if the occupants are present.
As a result of the incident, Garda Lisa Stephens of Bailieboro Garda Station is appealing to those who live alone and who are not expecting visitors to never open your door.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Stephens has this advice: "If you live alone and are not expecting visitors never open your door. Use a window to observe what or who is outside. Shout out to whoever knocked to identify themselves. If it is not someone you know, ask them to leave and inform them that you are contacting An Garda Síochána. If you have any safety concerns or want information on the personal pendent alarm scheme you can contact the community policing unit in Cavan Garda Station or your local Garda Station who will be able to advise you on the system."
