With schools set to return in the next few weeks, Gardaí in Co. Cavan are advising motorists to be mindful of increased traffic on roads.
Garda Lisa Stevens of Bailieboro Garda Station says it's important to give yourself time to get to your destination and to not get distracted by occupants in your vehicle or your mobile phone.
When schools return there will also be an increase in the number of pedestrians and cyclists on roads.
As a result, Garda Stevens has asked those to put on a high-visibility vest and to those driving a vehicle to be aware and responsive to pedestrians and cyclists using the road.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Stevens said it's important for everyone to make an effort to stay safe.
Garda Stevens continued; "It's important for motorists to stay focused on your driving and the road ahead.
Let us all make an effort to stay safe. Put down the phones, reduce your speed and belt up.
We all can do our bit by just getting the simple safety bits right."
