Cavan man urges motorists to check vehicle lights as safety concern grows

A Cavan native is urging people to check their vehicle lights as defective lighting becomes a growing danger on Irish roads.

John Donohue, originally from Ballyconnell and now living in Roscommon, says he regularly encounters cars and vans driving with only one headlight.

In an email sent to the Joe Finnegan show during the week, he emphasised the danger of this as it makes people think the oncoming vehicle is a motorbike.

He warns that this can lead to serious errors in decision making, especially in dark, foggy or wet conditions.

John is also encouraging motorists to use dipped headlights at all times and to get into the habit of checking their lights monthly.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show he urged pedestrians to wear high-vis jackets and carry a torch so they can be seen as the evenings have gotten darker.
