Disabled people who want to work are being held back by employers who do not provide the accommodations their staff need to succeed. Senator Pauline Tully said this lack of support is not confined to the private sector but, is happening in the public sector too.
The former Sinn Fein spokesperson on disability cited the case of a man from the Cavan-Monaghan constituency who cannot carry out the work in the public sector he is employed to do because the supports aren't there.
She was speaking in the Seanad on a range of disability matters. Senator Tully said targets set down should be more than just a box-ticking exercise (listen below):
