A man in his 30s has been sent forward to stand trial accused of murdering his mother and attempting to murder his father in Cavan has been sent forward to stand trial.
Thirty-two-year-old Danny Heyneman, Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Cavan appeared at a sitting of Cavan District Court today where he was served with a book of evidence containing both charges.
They allege that on January 11 this year, Mr Heyneman murdered his 55-year-old mother, Annie Heyneman contrary to common law and attempted to murder his father, Henk at Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.
Det Sgt Sharon Walsh gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on Mr Heyneman at Cavan Courthouse shortly after 10:30am.
Mr Heyneman, who sat in the custody area of the court, remained emotionless as that evidence was relayed before presiding Judge Raymond Finnegan.
Sgt Damien Galligan said directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had been received, consenting for Mr Heyneman to b sent forward to stand trial to the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
Defence barrister Joseph Smith BL, applied for legal aid to cover the cost of a consultant forensic psychiatrist with Mr Heyneman’s solicitor Damien Rudden subsequently applying for a psychological assessment and report to be undertaken on his client.
Both applications were approved by Judge Finnegan as he gave Mr Heyneman the alibi warning before remanding him in continuing custody to the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
