A local councillor has criticised the lack of funding for road repairs that has led to a substantial sinkhole in Co Cavan.
Cllr Adrian Rogers warned that it was "lucky" that nobody was hurt and that the road will be closed for at least one week for repair works.
The local Aontú representative believes there is a total lack of funding for roads in Co Cavan and described the current standard of infrastructure as "desperate."
Minster Darragh O'Brien will attend a ribbon cutting event in Cavan this Friday.
To coincide with his visit, Cllr Rogers said he sent an email to the Chair of Cavan County Council requesting to seek a meeting with the Minister to ask for more investment in local roads.
Despite issuing this request last week, Cllr Rogers said he is yet to hear from the Minister.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Rogers warned that roads are deteriorating at a rapid pace with funding allocations getting smaller and smaller every year.
