A Cavan Senator called for a statement to be made in relation to the controversy of organ retention.
Senator Pauline Tully today highlighted the need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on measures in place to provide accountability and answers for parents of children whose organs were retained without consent.
She outlined the case of Baby Tadhg who was stillborn in June 2016 in Cavan General Hospital.
Following a post-mortem, his organs were retained without his parent's knowledge.
His mother Paula was shocked and horrified to receive a phone call 17 months after she buried her son to ask what she wanted to do with her son's brain and left lung.
The controversy of organ retention has affected multiple families over decades.
Speaking in the Seanad this morning Senator Tully said the family have never received an apology or explanation.
