Cavan senator criticises Department of Education over Catholic patronage survey

The Cavan Senator says consultation and parental choice are vital for our education system, but this new Department of Education survey for parents is woefully inadequate.

Aontú Senator Sarah O'Reilly has criticised the Department of Education for what she describes as a "never ending cycle of surveys and reviews" while real issues in schools go unaddressed.

She says parents who contacted her were even able to submit multiple responses simply by switching devices, something which she says hardly inspires confidence in the reliability of the results.

Senator O'Reilly also criticised the Department for ignoring far more pressing issues facing parents and children.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly believes that many communities, parents are happy with the existing ethos of their local Catholic school and want that to remain in place.
Despite this, the Department's attempts to divest schools from Catholic patronage continue regardless she says:
