A Co. Cavan senator has delivered an address in the Seanad entirely through Irish, in order to promote the language.
Senator Pauline Tully isn't a fluent Irish speaker, but addressed the upper house as Gaeilge last week.
Speaking about the experience, Senator Tully said it was a nerve-wrecking and intimidating to take on the speech, and the most who do it are fluent in Irish.
However, she believes it is important to set fear aside to be more comfortable using the language.
Senator Tully said that the language is for everyone, and that people shouldn't be afraid to use their cúpla focail.
