The Cavan branch of the Choose Life group has branded the Government's decision to make abortion services available at Cavan General "appalling".
As of yesterday, pregnancy termination services are now available at all 19 maternity hospitals, including Cavan General. Choose Life Cavan says their group is extremely concerned that this service is now available in this region. The Bishops of Kilmore and Clogher have also issued a statement saying that they stand with staff who refuse to engage in the practice. Linda Farrelly from Choose Life Cavan says they are calling on staff to boycott participating in pregnancy termination.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Linda believes some staff at the Hospital are being put in an awkward situation now.
