Councillor Aidan Campbell says he is honoured to take up the role of first citizen of Monaghan.
The Fine Gael rep has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council.
Cllr Noel Keelan was elected as the Leas-Chathaoirleach.
Councillor Campbell, representing the Carrickmacross–Castleblayney Municipal District, is a longstanding public representative with a strong record of service to his local community.
He takes over the role from Cllr PJ O'Hanlon who served in the role for the past 12 months.
Aidan was first elected as a public representative in the region since 2009 and is married to Alicia and they have two grownup children.
He says he's honoured and privileged to take up the position and is looking forward to the next year.
