A local councillor has welcomed an update on a housing development in Clones.
24 houses are set to be built on the site of the old Scoil Croí Ró Naofa on the Roslea Road.
At a meeting of Monaghan County Council last week, a part 8 planning application was presented to local councillors.
According to local Sinn Féin councillor, Pat Treanor, the development will proceed to the next stage, which involves tendering for construction.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr. Treanor said he was delighted to welcome the news.
He explained how important additional housing is for rural towns like Clones.
Cllr. Treanor said: "There will be 24, its badly needed in Clones and in the Ballybay - Clones MD.
"Hopefully we will continue on and try and get more housing developments in the pipeline., because housing is a big issue here. Its one of the primary issues I have to deal with as a councillor.
"I can make representations, but if there is no housing available the council housing section cannot allocate them. In many instances people have to wait until there is an empty house, until someone passes away, or moves away," Cllr. Treanor explained.
