Clones crash accused to be sentenced next week

A man who admitted to dangerous driving causing the deaths of two Monaghan teenagers is to be sentenced next week.

61 year old Anthony McGinn with an address at Drumloo, Newbliss, Co.Monaghan pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing the deaths of best friends 17 year old Kiea McCann and 16 year old Dlava Mohammed. The pair were on their way to the debs ball in the Westenra Arms Hotel in Monaghan Town on the July 21st 2023 when the car driven by Mr McGinn struck a tree at Legnakelly, Clones.Kiea and Dlava both died in the incident, and Dlava's sister Avin was seriously injured. McGinn has also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to Avin Mohammed. The case was brought for mention at a sitting of Monaghan Circuit Criminal Court this morning. Following agreement from Mr McGinn's solicitors and the DPP, Judge John Aylmer set a sentencing date of next Wednesday, May 7th

Dangerous driving causing death has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
