A Clones native has discovered a talent and a passion for acting in his retirement years.
Eugene ‘Houdi’ McCabe grew up in Clones, before moving further afield when he was 19 years old.
He worked for various branches of Dunnes Stores until he retired aged 61.
For Christmas, Houdi’s children bought him acting classes, which kicked off his acting career.
Since then, the Clones man has featured in over 30 different short films, some long films, written short stories, and worked in the theatre.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he explained that he has no interest in being famous, and that his only ambition is to get better.
Houdi said: "When my son and my two daughters encouraged me to go and do it, I wasn't bothered. My daughter Alice always encouraged me to go and write stories, I just needed to be pushed maybe.
"I became brainwashed of being dedicated to the task. That took over in my writing, and in my acting. The one thing I would say is, you're never smart enough and you're never trained enough.
"Kind've like Conor McManus, the best footballer we've ever had, he'd tell you that you're always practicing. I'd be like that," Houdi added.
