Clones memorial garden to be a 'project for all'

Monaghan County Council has advised that progress will be provided in the coming weeks.

The 'Gone But Not Forgotten' memorial garden in Clones will be a beacon of hope for those who have lost a loved one both locally and further afield.

That's according to Brian MacUaid from the Gone But Not Forgotten group which was first founded back in 1985.

A committee from the group has proposed a permanent memorial for bikers who have lost their lives in road traffic collisions.

According to Brian, over the years, people have contacted the group to share their disappointment over not being able to attend the annual memorial service in May.

As a result the local group wanted to create a permanent memorial that would be there for people at any stage and open 365 days a year.

Three sites have been shortlisted to be considered in greater detail for the Gone But Not Forgotten Memorial Garden Clones. They are, Barry McGuigan Park, Play Area Garden at Clones Marina and Roslea Road Car Park at Junction with Church Hill.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Brian said the memorial garden will be a peaceful place for people to come, feel uplifted, remember the good times and make connections with others who may have known their loved one:
