A Co. Cavan farmer has said that if diesel prices surge again, farmers will look further an extended scheme.
The IFA’s Ulster Nth Leinster Chair, Maurice Brady made the comments this morning.
It comes following the announcement of a €100m fuel package for farmers and hauliers this morning.
IFA President Francie Gorman said it’s vital that the package delivers meaningful cost reductions for farmers.
Mr. Gorman that further support is likely to be required, particularly on fertiliser.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cavan farmer Maurice Brady gave his opinion on the announcement.
He welcomed the news, but highlighted his concerns.
Mr. Brady said: "It is a help. We have to welcome that there is a lot of money involved. Everything is a help at this stage.
"On the fuel, I just want to say, it's a foot in the door. The door is open. If prices surge again, we will definitely be going back and looking for an extended scheme," Mr. Brady added.
