A local councillor has expressed concerns about the condition of the R181 road in Co. Monaghan.
Cllr. Sean Gilliland raised the issue about the road at a meeting of Monaghan County Council this week.
The councillor explained that the road is an important economic corridor, as it travels north and south of the border.
He highlighted the large quantity of milk tankers, and HGV's that use the road on a daily basis.
Cllr. Gilliland told Northern Sound, that recent rain and storms have made the situation worse.
He also noted the costs associated for hauliers from damages caused on the R181.
Cllr. Gilliland said: "I've had local hauliers contact me very very recently where their tanker trailer has to be tested on an annual basis. The spend is anywhere between €2,000 and €5,000 due to wear and tare on poor road surface conditions."
