Concerns voiced locally over uninsured drivers and road safety

Claire warned that the chances of getting caught driving uninsured are "much higher now than before."

A Carrickmacross driving instructor has shared her concerns when it comes to uninsured drivers on our roads.

Claire McEneaney from Claire's School of Motoring described recent statistics as "staggering."

As many as 1 in 15 cars are uninsured and unregistered which Claire says is "shocking" as it has a huge impact on road safety, which is a top priority of hers as an RSA approved driving instructor.

From working with drivers, Claire said it's important to highlight that the vast majority of people want to be compliant and safe.

Claire feels that cost is one of the main factors for people making such poor decisions, with insurance extremely high, particular for young drivers.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Claire believes another major element is drivers thinking that they'll never be caught.

Despite this, the Carrick driving instructor warned that there's a higher chance now to getting caught by Gardai than ever before due to improved technology.
