A Co Monaghan councillor has highlighted her fears over the cost of living crisis and how she believes the situation is only getting worse.
Cllr Sinead Flynn says families and ordinary hardworking people are being ground down by rising prices on every front. This includes the weekly shop, fuel costs creeping up again, energy bills remaining the highest in Europe, and insurance premiums continuing to rise, hitting their highest levels in five years.
Cllr Flynn says families and ordinary hardworking people who pay their taxes every week, who are hit with VAT on everything they buy, and who are weighed down by taxes upon taxes, deserve better from this Government.
As a result of her concerns, Monaghan County Council will write to An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister Paschal Donohoe, Minister Jack Chambers demanding that the Government finally "steps up" and delivers a comprehensive Cost of Living Package in Budget 2026.
