Monaghan County Council has said that it is "not considered safe" to allow a permanent left turn at the bottom of Mill Street in Monaghan town.
Monaghan MD Cllr. Seán Conlon asked what progress had been made in exploring the potential of re-introducing a left turn at the bottom of Mill Street.
The Sinn Féin councillor submitted a unanimously agreed proposal at last September's MD sub-committee meeting.
At this week's Monaghan MD meeting, the council explained that the current location of the signalised crossing was designed using a number of criteria, including the pedestrian desire lines, and visibility.
It explained that since there are two lanes of traffic approaching from the Church Square, and Dawson Street.
As a result of its proximity to the crossing point, Monaghan County Council indicated that Mill Street is not considered a safe space for a permanent left turn.
