New research has revealed that over 76% of Cavan residents are unaware of the Northern Ireland Planned Healthcare Scheme (NIPHS).
The research was commissioned by Kingsbridge Private Hospital.
The cross-border scheme allows patients living in the Republic of Ireland to receive medical treatment in Northern Ireland and claim 100% reimbursement from the HSE for approved surgeries.
With over three quarters of Cavan residents unaware of the scheme, GP liaison officer with Kingsbridge, Gareth Crudden believes this data shows a "major gap" in awareness around cross-border
healthcare.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Crudden highlighted that a number of information events will take place this week across Co Cavan in relation to the scheme.
The free information event will take place tomorrow, Thursday 29th January, at the Errigal Country House Hotel, Cootehill between 10am and 1pm and the Market House, Ballyconnell between 2pm and 5pm.
