A Curlew conservation breakthrough on Sliabh Beagh has been described as a real hope.
A curlew released in Co Leitrim two years ago has established a breeding territory in Sliabh Beagh.
The curlew, that was bred as part of a conservation programme, was identified with a mate less than 50 kilometres from where it was released.
Donal Beagan of Breeding Waders EIP said that it is a hopeful sign that more head-started birds will begin to breed, allowing stabilisation of the population and to buy time to sort out other issues.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, he explained this Curlew's journey.
