A local TD has outlined the need to retain banking services across the Cavan-Monaghan region.
Deputy Brendan Smith has said that the presence of Permanent TSB in the constituency is essential.
The government had outlined its intention to sell its shares in the bank earlier this month.
The Fianna Fáil TD raised the issue with the Minister for Finance by way of parliamentary question.
He highlighted the importance of PTSB in the provision of financial services in the local area.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith called for a network of banking facilities throughout the country.
The TD said: "We have seen far too many towns, large towns, lose their banks, which is a big handicap for people.
"Everybody can't do their banking online. There are people who don't have the skills to do their banking online, they may not have the adequate broadband to support it.
"So we need a decent network of bank facilities throughout the country," Deputy smith added.
