A local councillor has called for sanitary bins to be installed in men's toilets.
Cllr Damien Brady brought a motion to the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council to call on the local authority to support the Dispose with Dignity campaign, a campaign to provide sanitary bins in men's toilets.
The Cavan Councillor who was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year says this call also shines a light on managing urinary incontinence due to prostate cancer.
He said that men can avoid going to the shops and social gatherings due to knowing that there will be no such bins offered in men's toilets.
Often, men have temporary urine leakage after prostate surgery or radiotherapy and Cllr Brady says and when out in the public and no access to proper toilet facilities is a real problem.
He said he knows of farmers that would normally attend their local livestock mart but won't go now due to the risk of embarrassment due to urinary incontinence.
Cllr Brady welcomed the confirmation by Cavan County Council that they will on a phased basis introduce bins in men's toilets in local authority owned buildings.
The Sinn Fein councillor welcomed this and called on others to follow suit.
